For the first time in 7 years, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is adjusting its fees. The changes go into effect on April 1, 2024. Here are some of the notable changes:
- Green Card Renewal & Replacement applications (Form I-90) are decreasing from $540 (with biometrics) to $465
- Petitions for Alien Relatives (Form I-130) are increasing from $535 to $675
- Adjustment of Status (Green Card) applications (Form I-485) are increasing from $1,225 (with biometrics) to $1,440
- Petitions to Remove Conditions from Residence (Form I-751) are increasing from $680 (with biometrics) to $750
- Naturalization applications (Form N-400) are increasing from $725 (with biometrics) to $760
- Online filers at uscis.gov receive a $50 fee discount (please note, not all applications can be filed online)
With the above changes, the agency hopes to reduce its backlog of certain cases as well as improve overall efficiency. Our office can confirm that, while processing times for Naturalization interviews are great at 2-6 months in the D.C. area, on average, other applications are significantly backlogged. As an example, both Provisional Waivers (Form I-601A) and Petitions to Remove Conditions from Residence (Form I-751) currently take 4+ years for adjudication.
If the fee for your particular case will increase, you are encouraged to file well before the April 1, 2024 deadline.
