A new Form I-9 for Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 is now available on the USCIS website as of August 1, 2023.A new Form I-9 for Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 is now available on the USCIS website. The form will be available on August 1, 2023.  USCIS is also releasing new rules for document examination. Under these rules, E-Verify employers may remotely examine identity and employment authorization documents. This is a change from prior practice, which has required in-person examination (apart from temporary COVID-19 flexibilities). Only E-Verify employers may utilize these new procedures for remote examination of documents. All other employers must still examine original documents in person for all new hires.

Additionally, if you used temporary COVID-19 flexibilities for I-9 inspection, you will need to complete the required updates by the end of August 2023. Non E-Verify employers will need to examine original documents in person. With these new rules, E-Verify employers may follow the new remote inspection procedures; this inspection also must be completed by the end of August.
